I attended “smalls” schools, starting at a local community college (Valencia State College now) which had approx 30,000 students and then the University of Central Florida (32k students then, now 62k) for my undergraduate work. I earned as BS in Computer Science, with a focus on digital media.
Upon graduation, I worked for a research facility for about a year and a half before moving into teaching full-time. There I worked on various real-time 3D simulation. Many of the machines we used were $50,000 to $3,000,000 and a modern laptop or desktop can outperform most of them. While there, projects just as wearable headsets, and 3D tracking were being built.
I taught full-time for about 7 years at a private college. During that time I taught various web design and development courses, as well as databases, programming, and a few other back end tools. During that time I earn a Master’s of Science in Computer Information Systems.
I went back into industry I was web software developer and admin for a company in Lake Mary Florida, and stayed with them for 12 years. During that time they were bought and sold several times, and changes their names several times more. While working for them I managed and customized two larger systems (an LMS – Learning Management System and CRM – Customer Relationship System) which had over 50,000 users each, as well as several smaller systems.
During that time I was also an Adjunct Professor at Seminole State College teaching mainly Web Design classes.
In 2019 I returned to teaching full time Computer Science at Tusculum University in Tennessee. I started out as an instructor, and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2023.
When not working full-time, or teaching, I also freelance as a web developer and customer software developer for small businesses. I mainly work in the areas of:
- website optimization (graphics, client side scripts, and CSS)
- Search Engine Optimization
- web programming (client – JavaScript and server – PHP, ASP, & MySQL)
In addition to the web development aspects, I have worked with Access , MySQL, and SQL Server Databases, Visual Basic, C#, and other languages as well as Web Accessibility, Web Analytics, and a few other areas.
I also maintain a small (web) business tech blog to help people who are new to putting their business on the Internet or looking to change how their business operates on the Internet. It also has help for some web developers who want to do new things.
Additionally, I have links for tips and tutorials that I find helpful for those learning web design, but may not be in my classes, as well as for topics which fall outside of the scope of the classes I teach, but are still useful.
My research focus is on mostly AI tools for Code Generation and Business Automation with low-code and no-code tools. I bring this information into classes such as Software Engineering and Programming Languages.
