Directions:
You are to create a web site for a super hero of your design. This of course means, and you should have inferred from previous assignments, that you can’t pick an existing super hero (I’ll even allow villains) such as Superman, Doc Oct, or The Dark Knight (a.k.a. Batman).
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to get you familiar with learning how to build the basic web pages, such as adding titles, paragraphs, and lists, and inline images. Simple CSS styles to control the look of existing tags will also be used, but larger work such as CSS rollovers, and layout control with CSS (although if you feel inclined you may attempt it).
This assignment does not have a large design aspect to it, as we are trying to get mainly the mechanics (structure) down first, and then work on presentation for later projects. We will check to make sure that the basic principles are help up, but not for design creativity. That will be used more in the following projects.
By creating your own character, you will be exercising creative writing, character creation, and adding something which you might choose to develop into a portfolio piece if you would like, since you don’t have to use external images which would be subjected to copyright usage.
Turn In:
Present your website in class to the instructor when asked.
Double check your website on a second computer before turning in.
Create a folder for your project called prj1_lastname_firstname replacing your name in the appropriate places. Zip that folder (not any other compression), and submit via Sakia.
Do not send source files for images (.ai, .psd, etc.) Only send files that are necessary for viewing your site.
Grading Criteria:
____ Include the name of your super hero/villain (2 points)
Can’t forget their name now can we…
____ Links (10 points)
Incorporate links from each page, to each page, add at least one line on one or more pages to an external source.
____ Include a home page (15 points)
Need to determine what type of home page one would use, would it provide information, or be a splash page? Make sure the file name is correct.
____ Include their resume (15 points)
Follow standard procedures for writing a resume
____ Include the article about the super hero (15 points)
Use the one from the homework assignment. Make sure the grading criteria is correct for it as well.
____ Include a “Contact” page that has means of contacting them (15 points)
Phone number, e-mail, IM name, etc. Do not worry about web forms, or other advanced topics yet.
You may or many not want to include a Google Map, depending on if Hidden Fortress is “hidden”
____ Properly use the following HTML structures (tags). (23 points)
These will be through out the web pages, not necessarily on each page: h1, h2, block quote, anchors (links), unordered list, and paragraph. You may incorporate more tags if you would like.
____ Style Sheets (external sheet linked in) (20 points)
Redefine the basic HTML tags to by styled the way you want. Must redefine at least 5 tags, but more is probably better. Follow a basic theme that you would want, such as the font type and style, etc.
____ Basic Design (10 Points)
Follow basic design principles of Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity. While I will not be judging this project on design creativity, I will be looking for basic design aspects
____ Total (125 points)
