Chapter 4 - Dreamweaver Basics

Creating a new Document

• Use the Dreamweaver "Start Page"
• CTRL-N
• File>New

Types of New Documents

• HTML
• Dynamic (PHP, ASP, etc.)
• CSS
• etc.

Default Document

• From last weeks conversation
• Usually either
  • index.htm
  • index.html
• May also be
  • home.htm
  • default.htm
  • user defined

Page Titles

• Setting the page title (default is untitled document)
• file name vs page title

Inserting Images

• Assests Panel (with file grouping)
  • names
  • diminsions
  • more...

Inserting Text

• Web pages have flow control (you can't just place your cursor and type)
• Where you can type, your cursor is an "I" (i-beam) shape
• Changing type of text (header, paragraph, etc)
• Changing text settings (center, etc.) (pg 71)

Creating Links

• Select an image or text which is the linking information, then from the property inspector:
  • Browse for a File
  • Type in the link
  • Use the target icon
• Opening in different windows

Inserting Meta Data

• Meta Data is data about data
• Insert > html > Head Tags > <meta data type >
• keywords
• description
• not used much for search engines
