Transpose data allows us to convert rows of data into columns or columns of data into rows. Watch the video below, or follow along.
So let’s take this table in Excel as an example here. We have sales people by an amount of sales that they’ve had over a set of months.
Let’s say we got a need to change the rows into columns of data. We could copy and paste this mainly, but that’d be very time-consuming especially if we had years worth of data. Or, likewise, if we had hundreds or thousands of sales representatives so the quick fix is to select the damage you want to transpose?
- You’re going to copy it you can either choose Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd+C (Mac). Or you can right-click and copy.
- Now we’re gonna go to our new tab in Excel. This is just to make it easier to see.
- Right click in a cell that you want to insert the transposed data
- Choose Paste Special. This is gonna open up a new window.
- Check the transpose check box
- Finally click OK
Now the sales amounts are in columns instead of by rows I can also transpose the other direction from columns into rows
